| 34. | الرِّجَالُ قَوَّامُونَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَبِمَا أَنفَقُوا مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ ۚ فَالصَّالِحَاتُ قَانِتَاتٌ حَافِظَاتٌ لِّلْغَيْبِ بِمَا حَفِظَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاللَّاتِي تَخَافُونَ نُشُوزَهُنَّ فَعِظُوهُنَّ وَاهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِي الْمَضَاجِعِ وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ ۖ فَإِنْ أَطَعْنَكُمْ فَلَا تَبْغُوا عَلَيْهِنَّ سَبِيلًا ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيًّا كَبِيرًا |
| Transliteration: | Alrrijalu qawwamoona AAala alnnisai bima faddala Allahu baAAdahum AAala baAAdin wabima anfaqoo min amwalihim faalssalihatu qanitatun hafithatun lilghaybi bima hafitha Allahu waallatee takhafoona nushoozahunna faAAithoohunna waohjuroohunna fee almadajiAAi waidriboohunna fain ataAAnakum fala tabghoo AAalayhinna sabeelan inna Allaha kana AAaliyyan kabeeran |
| Yusuf Ali: | Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all). |
| Shakir: | Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great. |

| French: | Les hommes ont autorité sur les femmes, en raison des faveurs qu'Allah accorde à ceux-là sur celles-ci, et aussi à cause des dépenses qu'ils font de leurs biens. Les femmes vertueuses sont obéissantes (à leurs maris), et protègent ce qui doit être protégé, pendant l'absence de leurs époux, avec la protection d'Allah. Et quant à celles dont vous craignez la désobéissance, exhortez-les, éloignez-vous d'elles dans leurs lits et frappez-les. Si elles arrivent à vous obéir, alors ne cherchez plus de voie contre elles, car Allah est certes, Haut et Grand! |
| Spanish: | Los hombres tienen autoridad sobre las mujeres en virtud de la preferencia que Alá ha dado a unos más que a otros y de los bienes que gastan. Las mujeres virtuosas son devotas y cuidan, en ausencia de sus maridos, de lo que Alá manda que cuiden. ¡Amonestad a aquéllas de quienes temáis que se rebelen, dejadlas solas en el lecho, pegadles! Si os obedecen, no os metáis más con ellas. Alá es excelso, grande. |
| Indonesian: | Kaum laki-laki itu adalah pemimpin bagi kaum wanita, oleh karena Allah telah melebihkan sebahagian mereka (laki-laki) atas sebahagian yang lain (wanita), dan karena mereka (laki-laki) telah menafkahkan sebagian dari harta mereka. Sebab itu maka wanita yang saleh, ialah yang ta'at kepada Allah lagi memelihara diri ketika suaminya tidak ada, oleh karena Allah telah memelihara (mereka) . Wanita-wanita yang kamu khawatirkan nusyuznya , maka nasehatilah mereka dan pisahkanlah mereka di tempat tidur mereka, dan pukullah mereka. Kemudian jika mereka menta'atimu, maka janganlah kamu mencari-cari jalan untuk menyusahkannya . Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Tinggi lagi Maha Besar.

| Malay:: | Kaum lelaki itu adalah pemimpin dan pengawal yang bertanggungjawab terhadap kaum perempuan, oleh kerana Allah telah melebihkan orang-orang lelaki (dengan beberapa keistimewaan) atas orang-orang perempuan dan juga kerana orang-orang lelaki telah membelanjakan (memberi nafkah) sebahagian dari harta mereka. Maka perempuan-perempuan yang soleh itu ialah yang taat (kepada Allah dan suaminya), dan yang memelihara (kehormatan dirinya dan apa jua yang wajib dipelihara) ketika suami tidak hadir bersama, dengan pemuliharaan Allah dan pertolonganNya dan perempuan-perempuan yang kamu bimbang melakukan perbuatan derhaka (nusyuz) hendaklah kamu menasihati mereka dan (jika mereka berdegil) pulaukanlah mereka di tempat tidur dan (kalau juga mereka masih degil) pukullah mereka (dengan pukulan ringan yang bertujuan mengajarnya). Kemudian jika mereka taat kepada kamu, maka janganlah kamu mencari-cari jalan untuk menyusahkan mereka. Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Tinggi, lagi Maha Besar.

| German: | Die Männer stehen in Verantwortung für die Frauen wegen dessen, womit Allah die einen von ihnen vor den anderen ausgezeichnet hat und weil sie von ihrem Besitz (für sie) ausgeben. Darum sind die rechtschaffenen Frauen (Allah) demütig ergeben und hüten das zu Verbergende, weil Allah (es) hütet. Und diejenigen, deren Widersetzlichkeit ihr befürchtet, - ermahnt sie, meidet sie im Ehebett und schlagt sie. Wenn sie euch aber gehorchen, dann sucht kein Mittel gegen sie. Allah ist Erhaben und Groß. |
| Russian: | Мужчины являются попечителями женщин, потому что Аллах дал одним из них преимущество перед другими, и потому что они расходуют из своего имущества. Праведные женщины покорны и хранят то, что положено хранить, в отсутствие мужей, благодаря заботе Аллаха. А тех женщин, непокорности которых вы опасаетесь, увещевайте, избегайте на супружеском ложе и побивайте. Если же они будут покорны вам, то не ищите пути против них. Воистину, Аллах - Возвышенный, Большой. |
| Bosnian: | Muškarci vode brigu o ženama zato što je Allah dao prednost jednima nad drugima i zato što oni troše imetke svoje. Zbog toga su čestite žene poslušne i za vrijeme muževljeva odsustva vode brigu o onome o čemu trebaju brigu voditi, jer i Allah njih štiti. A one čijih se neposlušnosti pribojavate, vi posavjetujte, a onda se od njih u postelji rastavite, pa ih i udarite; a kad vam postanu poslušne, onda im zulum ne činite! – Allah je, zaista, uzvišen i velik! |
| Urdu: | مرد عورتوں پر حاکم ہیں اس واسطے کہ الله نے ایک کو ایک پر فضیلت دی ہے اور اس واسطے کہ انہوں نے اپنے مال خرچ کیے ہیں پھر جو عورتیں نیک ہیں وہ تابعدار ہیں مردوں کے پیٹھ پیچھے الله کی نگرانی میں (ان کے حقوق کی) حفاظت کرتی ہیں اور جن عورتو ں سےتمہیں سرکشی کا خطرہ ہو تو انہیں سمجھاؤ اور سونے میں جدا کر دو اور مارو پھر اگر تمہارا کہا مان جائیں تو ان پر الزام لگانے کے لیے بہانے مت تلاش کرو بے شک الله سب سے اوپر بڑا ہے |
