1  
لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
Transliteration 1: La oqsimu biyawmi alqiyamati
Yusuf Ali 1: I do call to witness the Resurrection Day;
Mohsin Khan: 1: I swear by the Day of Resurrection.
Saheeh: 1: I swear by the Day of Resurrection
Urdu 1: قیامت کے دن کی قسم ہے


2  
وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ
Transliteration 2: Wala oqsimu bialnnafsi allawwamati
Yusuf Ali 2: And I do call to witness the self-reproaching spirit: (Eschew Evil).
Mohsin Khan: 2: And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).
Saheeh: 2: And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
Urdu 2: اور پشیمان ہونے والے شخص کی قسم ہے


3  
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ
Transliteration 3: Ayahsabu alinsanu allan najmaAAa AAithamahu
Yusuf Ali 3: Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones?
Mohsin Khan: 3: Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?
Saheeh: 3: Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
Urdu 3: کیا انسان سمجھتا ہے کہ ہم اس کی ہڈیاں جمع نہ کریں گے


4  
بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ
Transliteration 4: Bala qadireena AAala an nusawwiya bananahu
Yusuf Ali 4: Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.
Mohsin Khan: 4: Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.
Saheeh: 4: Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
Urdu 4: ہاں ہم تو اس پر قادر ہیں کہ اس کی پور پور درست کر دیں


5  
بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ
Transliteration 5: Bal yureedu alinsanu liyafjura amamahu
Yusuf Ali 5: But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him.
Mohsin Khan: 5: Nay! Man (denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So he) desires to continue committing sins.
Saheeh: 5: But man desires to continue in sin.
Urdu 5: بلکہ انسان تو چاہتا ہے کہ آئندہ بھی نافرمانی کرتا رہے


6  
يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ
Transliteration 6: Yasalu ayyana yawmu alqiyamati
Yusuf Ali 6: He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
Mohsin Khan: 6: He asks: "When will be this Day of Resurrection?"
Saheeh: 6: He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
Urdu 6: پوچھتا ہےکہ قیامت کا دن کب ہو گا


7  
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ
Transliteration 7: Faitha bariqa albasaru
Yusuf Ali 7: At length, when the sight is dazed,
Mohsin Khan: 7: So, when the sight shall be dazed.
Saheeh: 7: So when vision is dazzled
Urdu 7: پس جب آنکھیں چندھیا جائیں گی


8  
وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ
Transliteration 8: Wakhasafa alqamaru
Yusuf Ali 8: And the moon is buried in darkness.
Mohsin Khan: 8: And the moon will be eclipsed.
Saheeh: 8: And the moon darkens
Urdu 8: اور چاند بے نور ہو جائے گا


9  
وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ
Transliteration 9: WajumiAAa alshshamsu waalqamaru
Yusuf Ali 9: And the sun and moon are joined together,-
Mohsin Khan: 9: And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light).
Saheeh: 9: And the sun and the moon are joined,
Urdu 9: اور سورج اور چاند اکھٹے کیے جائیں گے


10  
يَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ
Transliteration 10: Yaqoolu alinsanu yawmaithin ayna almafarru
Yusuf Ali 10: That Day will Man say: "Where is the refuge?"
Mohsin Khan: 10: On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?"
Saheeh: 10: Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
Urdu 10: اس دن انسان کہے گا کہ بھاگنے کی جگہ کہاں ہے


11  
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
Transliteration 11: Kalla la wazara
Yusuf Ali 11: By no means! No place of safety!
Mohsin Khan: 11: No! There is no refuge!
Saheeh: 11: No! There is no refuge.
Urdu 11: ہر گز نہیں کہیں پناہ نہیں


12  
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ
Transliteration 12: Ila rabbika yawmaithin almustaqarru
Yusuf Ali 12: Before thy Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of rest.
Mohsin Khan: 12: Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.
Saheeh: 12: To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
Urdu 12: اس دن آپ کے رب ہی کی طرف ٹھکانہ ہے


13  
يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
Transliteration 13: Yunabbao alinsanu yawmaithin bima qaddama waakhkhara
Yusuf Ali 13: That Day will Man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he put back.
Mohsin Khan: 13: On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).
Saheeh: 13: Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
Urdu 13: اس دن انسان کو بتا دیا جائے گا کہ وہ کیا لایا اور کیا چھوڑ آیا


14  
بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ
Transliteration 14: Bali alinsanu AAala nafsihi baseeratun
Yusuf Ali 14: Nay, man will be evidence against himself,
Mohsin Khan: 14: Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds],
Saheeh: 14: Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
Urdu 14: بلکہ انسان اپنے اوپر خود شاہد ہے


15  
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ
Transliteration 15: Walaw alqa maAAatheerahu
Yusuf Ali 15: Even though he were to put up his excuses.
Mohsin Khan: 15: Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).
Saheeh: 15: Even if he presents his excuses.
Urdu 15: گو وہ کتنے ہی بہانے پیش کرے


16  
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ
Transliteration 16: La tuharrik bihi lisanaka litaAAjala bihi
Yusuf Ali 16: Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith.
Mohsin Khan: 16: Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur'an, O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) to make haste therewith.
Saheeh: 16: Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
Urdu 16: آپ (وحی ختم ہونے سے پہلے) قرآن پراپنی زبان نہ ہلایا کیجیئے تاکہ آپ اسے جلدی جلدی لیں


17  
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ
Transliteration 17: Inna AAalayna jamAAahu waquranahu
Yusuf Ali 17: It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:
Mohsin Khan: 17: It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) the ability to recite it (the Qur'an).
Saheeh: 17: Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
Urdu 17: بے شک اس کا جمع کرنا اور پڑھا دینا ہمارے ذمہ ہے


18  
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ
Transliteration 18: Faitha qaranahu faittabiAA quranahu
Yusuf Ali 18: But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated):
Mohsin Khan: 18: And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم through Jibril (Gabriel)], then follow its (the Qur'an's) recital.
Saheeh: 18: So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
Urdu 18: پھر جب ہم ا سکی قرأت کر چکیں تو اس کی قرأت کا اتباع کیجیئے


19  
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ
Transliteration 19: Thumma inna AAalayna bayanahu
Yusuf Ali 19: Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear):
Mohsin Khan: 19: Then it is for Us (Allah) to make it clear (to you).
Saheeh: 19: Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
Urdu 19: پھر بے شک اس کا کھول کر بیان کرنا ہمارے ذمہ ہے


20  
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ
Transliteration 20: Kalla bal tuhibboona alAAajilata
Yusuf Ali 20: Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,
Mohsin Khan: 20: Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but you (men) love the present life of this world,
Saheeh: 20: No! But you love the immediate
Urdu 20: ہر گز نہیں بلکہ تم تو دنیا کو چاہتے ہو


21  
وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ
Transliteration 21: Watatharoona alakhirata
Yusuf Ali 21: And leave alone the Hereafter.
Mohsin Khan: 21: And neglect the Hereafter.
Saheeh: 21: And leave the Hereafter.
Urdu 21: اور آخرت کو چھوڑتے ہو


22  
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ
Transliteration 22: Wujoohun yawmaithin nadiratun
Yusuf Ali 22: Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty);-
Mohsin Khan: 22: Some faces that Day shall be Nadirah (shining and radiant).
Saheeh: 22: [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
Urdu 22: کئی چہرے اس دن تر و تازہ ہو ں گے


23  
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ
Transliteration 23: Ila rabbiha nathiratun
Yusuf Ali 23: Looking towards their Lord;
Mohsin Khan: 23: Looking at their Lord (Allah).
Saheeh: 23: Looking at their Lord.
Urdu 23: اپنے رب کی طرف دیکھتے ہوں گے


24  
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ
Transliteration 24: Wawujoohun yawmaithin basiratun
Yusuf Ali 24: And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal,
Mohsin Khan: 24: And some faces, that Day, will be Basirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad),
Saheeh: 24: And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
Urdu 24: اور کتنے چہرے اس دن اداس ہو ں گے


25  
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ
Transliteration 25: Tathunnu an yufAAala biha faqiratun
Yusuf Ali 25: In the thought that some back-breaking calamity was about to be inflicted on them;
Mohsin Khan: 25: Thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them.
Saheeh: 25: Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
Urdu 25: خیال کر رہے ہوں گے کہ ان کے ساتھ کمر توڑ دینے والی سختی کی جائے گی


26  
كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ
Transliteration 26: Kalla itha balaghati alttaraqiya
Yusuf Ali 26: Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit),
Mohsin Khan: 26: Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),
Saheeh: 26: No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
Urdu 26: نہیں نہیں جب کہ جان گلے تک پہنچ جائے گی


27  
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ
Transliteration 27: Waqeela man raqin
Yusuf Ali 27: And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician (to restore him)?"
Mohsin Khan: 27: And it will be said: "Who can cure him (and save him from death)?"
Saheeh: 27: And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"
Urdu 27: اورلوگ کہیں گے کوئی جھاڑنے والا ہے


28  
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ
Transliteration 28: Wathanna annahu alfiraqu
Yusuf Ali 28: And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;
Mohsin Khan: 28: And he (the dying person) will conclude that it was (the time) of parting (death);
Saheeh: 28: And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
Urdu 28: اور وہ خیال کرے گا کہ یہ وقت جدائی کا ہے


29  
وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ
Transliteration 29: Wailtaffati alssaqu bialssaqi
Yusuf Ali 29: And one leg will be joined with another:
Mohsin Khan: 29: And one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded).
Saheeh: 29: And the leg is wound about the leg,
Urdu 29: اور ایک پنڈلی دوسری پنڈلی سے لپٹ جائے گی


30  
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ
Transliteration 30: Ila rabbika yawmaithin almasaqu
Yusuf Ali 30: That Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord!
Mohsin Khan: 30: The drive will be, on that Day, to your Lord (Allah)!
Saheeh: 30: To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
Urdu 30: تیرے رب کی طرف اس دن چلنا ہوگا


31  
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
Transliteration 31: Fala saddaqa wala salla
Yusuf Ali 31: So he gave nothing in charity, nor did he pray!-
Mohsin Khan: 31: So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur'an and in the Message of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) nor prayed!
Saheeh: 31: And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.
Urdu 31: پھر نہ تو اس نے تصدیق کی اور نہ نماز پڑھی


32  
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
Transliteration 32: Walakin kaththaba watawalla
Yusuf Ali 32: But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!
Mohsin Khan: 32: But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur'an and the Message of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and turned away!
Saheeh: 32: But [instead], he denied and turned away.
Urdu 32: بلکہ جھٹلایا اورمنہ موڑا


33  
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ
Transliteration 33: Thumma thahaba ila ahlihi yatamatta
Yusuf Ali 33: Then did he stalk to his family in full conceit!
Mohsin Khan: 33: Then he walked in conceit (full pride) to his family admiring himself!
Saheeh: 33: And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].
Urdu 33: پھر اپنے گھر والوں کی طرف اکڑتا ہوا چلا گیا


34  
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Transliteration 34: Awla laka faawla
Yusuf Ali 34: Woe to thee, (O men!), yea, woe!
Mohsin Khan: 34: Woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Saheeh: 34: Woe to you, and woe!
Urdu 34: (اے انسان) تیرے لیے افسوس پرافسوس ہے


35  
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Transliteration 35: Thumma awla laka faawla
Yusuf Ali 35: Again, Woe to thee, (O men!), yea, woe!
Mohsin Khan: 35: Again, woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Saheeh: 35: Then woe to you, and woe!
Urdu 35: پھر تیرے لیے افسوس پر افسوس ہے


36  
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
Transliteration 36: Ayahsabu alinsanu an yutraka sudan
Yusuf Ali 36: Does man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?
Mohsin Khan: 36: Does man think that he will be left neglected (without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord Allah on him)?
Saheeh: 36: Does man think that he will be left neglected?
Urdu 36: کیاانسان یہ سمجھ رہا ہے کہ وہ یونہی چھوڑ دیا جائے گا


37  
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ
Transliteration 37: Alam yaku nutfatan min manayyin yumna
Yusuf Ali 37: Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)?
Mohsin Khan: 37: Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female sexual discharge) of semen emitted (poured forth)?
Saheeh: 37: Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
Urdu 37: کیا وہ ٹپکتی منی کی ایک بوند نہ تھا


38  
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Transliteration 38: Thumma kana AAalaqatan fakhalaqa fasawwa
Yusuf Ali 38: Then did he become a leech-like clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion.
Mohsin Khan: 38: Then he became an 'Alaqah (a clot); then (Allah) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.
Saheeh: 38: Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
Urdu 38: پھر وہ لوتھڑا بنا پھر الله نے اسے بنا کر ٹھیک کیا


39  
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ
Transliteration 39: FajaAAala minhu alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha
Yusuf Ali 39: And of him He made two sexes, male and female.
Mohsin Khan: 39: And made of him two sexes, male and female.
Saheeh: 39: And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
Urdu 39: پھر اس نے مرد و عورت کا جوڑا بنایا


40  
أَلَيْسَ ذَ‌ٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَن يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ
Transliteration 40: Alaysa thalika biqadirin AAala an yuhyiya almawta
Yusuf Ali 40: Has not He, (the same), the power to give life to the dead?
Mohsin Khan: 40: Is not He (Allah Who does that) Able to give life to the dead? (Yes! He is Able to do all things).
Saheeh: 40: Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
Urdu 40: پھر کیا وہ الله مردے زندہ کردینے پر قادر نہیں
