1  
إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ
Transliteration 1: Itha alshshamsu kuwwirat
Yusuf Ali 1: When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up;
Mohsin Khan: 1: When the sun is wound round and its light is lost and is overthrown.
Saheeh: 1: When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
Urdu 1: جب سورج کی روشنی لپیٹی جائے


2  
وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ
Transliteration 2: Waitha alnnujoomu inkadarat
Yusuf Ali 2: When the stars fall, losing their lustre;
Mohsin Khan: 2: And when the stars fall.
Saheeh: 2: And when the stars fall, dispersing,
Urdu 2: اور جب ستارے گر جائیں


3  
وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ
Transliteration 3: Waitha aljibalu suyyirat
Yusuf Ali 3: When the mountains vanish (like a mirage);
Mohsin Khan: 3: And when the mountains are made to pass away;
Saheeh: 3: And when the mountains are removed
Urdu 3: اور جب پہاڑ چلائے جائیں


4  
وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ
Transliteration 4: Waitha alAAisharu AAuttilat
Yusuf Ali 4: When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended;
Mohsin Khan: 4: And when the pregnant she-camels are neglected;
Saheeh: 4: And when full-term she-camels are neglected
Urdu 4: اور جب دس مہینے کی گابھن اونٹنیاں چھوڑ دی جائیں


5  
وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ
Transliteration 5: Waitha alwuhooshu hushirat
Yusuf Ali 5: When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations);
Mohsin Khan: 5: And when the wild beasts are gathered together.
Saheeh: 5: And when the wild beasts are gathered
Urdu 5: اور جب جنگلی جانور اکھٹے ہوجائیں


6  
وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ
Transliteration 6: Waitha albiharu sujjirat
Yusuf Ali 6: When the oceans boil over with a swell;
Mohsin Khan: 6: And when the seas become as blazing Fire or overflow.
Saheeh: 6: And when the seas are filled with flame
Urdu 6: اور جب سمندر جوش دیئے جائیں


7  
وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ
Transliteration 7: Waitha alnnufoosu zuwwijat
Yusuf Ali 7: When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like);
Mohsin Khan: 7: And when the souls are joined with their bodies, (the good with the good and the bad with the bad).
Saheeh: 7: And when the souls are paired
Urdu 7: اور جب جانیں جسموں سے ملائی جائیں


8  
وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ
Transliteration 8: Waitha almawoodatu suilat
Yusuf Ali 8: When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -
Mohsin Khan: 8: And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) is questioned:
Saheeh: 8: And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
Urdu 8: اور جب زندہ درگور لڑکی سے پوچھا جائے


9  
بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ
Transliteration 9: Biayyi thanbin qutilat
Yusuf Ali 9: For what crime she was killed;
Mohsin Khan: 9: For what sin, was she killed?
Saheeh: 9: For what sin she was killed
Urdu 9: کہ کس گناہ پر ماری گئی تھی


10  
وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ
Transliteration 10: Waitha alssuhufu nushirat
Yusuf Ali 10: When the scrolls are laid open;
Mohsin Khan: 10: And when the (written) pages [of deeds (good and bad) of every person] are laid open.
Saheeh: 10: And when the pages are made public
Urdu 10: اور جب اعمال نامے کھل جائیں


11  
وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ
Transliteration 11: Waitha alssamao kushitat
Yusuf Ali 11: When the world on High is unveiled;
Mohsin Khan: 11: And when the heaven is stripped off and taken away from its place;
Saheeh: 11: And when the sky is stripped away
Urdu 11: اور آسمان کا پوست اتارا جائے


12  
وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ
Transliteration 12: Waitha aljaheemu suAAAAirat
Yusuf Ali 12: When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat;
Mohsin Khan: 12: And when Hell-fire is set ablaze.
Saheeh: 12: And when Hellfire is set ablaze
Urdu 12: اورجب دوزخ دھکائی جائے


13  
وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ
Transliteration 13: Waitha aljannatu ozlifat
Yusuf Ali 13: And when the Garden is brought near;-
Mohsin Khan: 13: And when Paradise is brought near.
Saheeh: 13: And when Paradise is brought near,
Urdu 13: اورجب جنت قریب لائی جائے


14  
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ
Transliteration 14: AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat
Yusuf Ali 14: (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward.
Mohsin Khan: 14: (Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil).
Saheeh: 14: A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].
Urdu 14: تو ہر شخص جان لے گا کہ وہ کیا لے کر آیا ہے


15  
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ
Transliteration 15: Fala oqsimu bialkhunnasi
Yusuf Ali 15: So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede,
Mohsin Khan: 15: So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night).
Saheeh: 15: So I swear by the retreating stars -
Urdu 15: پس میں قسم کھاتا ہوں پیچھے ہٹنے والے


16  
الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ
Transliteration 16: Aljawari alkunnasi
Yusuf Ali 16: Go straight, or hide;
Mohsin Khan: 16: And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves.
Saheeh: 16: Those that run [their courses] and disappear -
Urdu 16: سیدھے چلنے والے غیب ہو جانے والے ستارو ں کی


17  
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ
Transliteration 17: Waallayli itha AAasAAasa
Yusuf Ali 17: And the Night as it dissipates;
Mohsin Khan: 17: And by the night as it departs.
Saheeh: 17: And by the night as it closes in
Urdu 17: اور قسم ہے رات کی جب وہ جانے لگے


18  
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ
Transliteration 18: Waalssubhi itha tanaffasa
Yusuf Ali 18: And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;-
Mohsin Khan: 18: And by the dawn as it brightens.
Saheeh: 18: And by the dawn when it breathes
Urdu 18: اور قسم ہے صبح کی جب وہ آنے لگے


19  
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
Transliteration 19: Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin
Yusuf Ali 19: Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger,
Mohsin Khan: 19: Verily, this is the Word (this Qur'an brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibril (Gabril), from Allah to Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم].
Saheeh: 19: [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
Urdu 19: بے شک یہ قرآن ایک معزز رسول کا لایا ہوا ہے


20  
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ
Transliteration 20: Thee quwwatin AAinda thee alAAarshi makeenin
Yusuf Ali 20: Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne,
Mohsin Khan: 20: Owner of power, (and high rank) with (Allah), the Lord of the Throne,
Saheeh: 20: [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],
Urdu 20: جو بڑا طاقتور ہے عرش کے مالک کے نزدیک بڑے رتبہ والا ہے


21  
مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ
Transliteration 21: MutaAAin thamma ameenin
Yusuf Ali 21: With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust.
Mohsin Khan: 21: Obeyed (by the angels in the heavens), and trustworthy.
Saheeh: 21: Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
Urdu 21: وہاں کا سردار امانت دار ہے


22  
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ
Transliteration 22: Wama sahibukum bimajnoonin
Yusuf Ali 22: And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed;
Mohsin Khan: 22: And (O people) your companion (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) is not a madman.
Saheeh: 22: And your companion is not [at all] mad.
Urdu 22: اور تمہارا رفیق کوئی دیوانہ نہیں ہے


23  
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ
Transliteration 23: Walaqad raahu bialofuqi almubeeni
Yusuf Ali 23: And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon.
Mohsin Khan: 23: And indeed he (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) saw him [Jibril (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east).
Saheeh: 23: And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.
Urdu 23: اور اس نے اس کو کُھلے کنارے پر دیکھا بھی ہے


24  
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ
Transliteration 24: Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneenin
Yusuf Ali 24: Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen.
Mohsin Khan: 24: And he (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) withholds not a knowledge of the Unseen.
Saheeh: 24: And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.
Urdu 24: اور وہ غیب کی باتوں پر بخیل نہیں ہے


25  
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ
Transliteration 25: Wama huwa biqawli shaytanin rajeemin
Yusuf Ali 25: Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed.
Mohsin Khan: 25: And it (the Qur'an) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan).
Saheeh: 25: And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
Urdu 25: اور وہ کسی شیطان مردود کا قول نہیں ہے


26  
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ
Transliteration 26: Faayna tathhaboona
Yusuf Ali 26: When whither go ye?
Mohsin Khan: 26: Then where are you going?
Saheeh: 26: So where are you going?
Urdu 26: پس تم کہاں چلے جا رہے ہو


27  
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
Transliteration 27: In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameena
Yusuf Ali 27: Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds:
Mohsin Khan: 27: Verily, this (the Qur'an) is no less than a Reminder to (all) the 'Alamin (mankind and jinn)
Saheeh: 27: It is not except a reminder to the worlds
Urdu 27: یہ تو جہان بھرکے لیے نصیحت ہی نصیحت ہے


28  
لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ
Transliteration 28: Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeema
Yusuf Ali 28: (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight:
Mohsin Khan: 28: To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight.
Saheeh: 28: For whoever wills among you to take a right course.
Urdu 28: اس کے لیے جو تم میں سے سیدھا چلنا چاہے


29  
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Transliteration 29: Wama tashaoona illa an yashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameena
Yusuf Ali 29: But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds.
Mohsin Khan: 29: And you cannot will unless (it be) that Allah wills - the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists).
Saheeh: 29: And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.
Urdu 29: اور تم توجب ہی چاہو گے کہ جب الله چاہے گا جو تمام جہان کا رب ہے
