(1) Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

(2) And they say: "None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a christian." Those are their (vain) desires. Say: "Produce your proof if ye are truthful."

(3) The Jews say: "The christians have naught (to stand) upon; and the christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word is what those say who know not; but Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the Day of Judgment.

(4) Never will the Jews or the christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion. Say: "The Guidance of Allah,-that is the (only) Guidance." Wert thou to follow their desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither Protector nor helper against Allah.

(5) They say: "Become Jews or christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with Allah."

(6) Or do ye say that Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah? Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah? but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do!

(7) Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

(8) Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah's (Which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah.

(9) That they said (in boast), "We killed christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

(10) O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.
