(1) The month of Ramazan is that in which the quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks.

(2) Do they not then meditate on the quran? And if it were from any other than Allah, they would have found in it many a discrepancy.

(3) O you who believe! do not put questions about things which if declared to you may trouble you, and if you question about them when the quran is being revealed, they shall be declared to you; Allah pardons this, and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

(4) Say: What thing is the weightiest in testimony? Say: Allah is witness between you and me; and this quran has been revealed to me that with it I may warn you and whomsoever it reaches. Do you really bear witness that there are other gods with Allah? Say: I do not bear witness. Say: He is only one Allah, and surely I am clear of that which you set up (with Him).

(5) And when the quran is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, that mercy may be shown to you.

(6) Surely Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this, that they shall have the garden; they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain; a promise which is binding on Him in the Taurat and the Injeel and the quran; and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice therefore in the pledge which you have made; and that is the mighty achievement.

(7) And when Our clear communications are recited to them, those who hope not for Our meeting say: Bring a quran other than this or change it. Say: It does not beseem me that I should change it of myself; I follow naught but what is revealed to me; surely I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a mighty day.

(8) And this quran is not such as could be forged by those besides Allah, but it is a verification of that which is before it and a clear explanation of the book, there is no doubt in it, from the Lord of the worlds.

(9) And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the quran, nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you when you enter into it, and there does not lie concealed from your Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor any thing less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book.

(10) Surely We have revealed it-- an Arabic quran-- that you may understand.
