(1) To the thamud people (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren: He said: "O my people! worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. Now hath come unto you a clear (Sign) from your Lord! This she-camel of Allah is a Sign unto you: So leave her to graze in Allah's earth, and let her come to no harm, or ye shall be seized with a grievous punishment.

(2) Hath not the story reached them of those before them?- the People of Noah, and 'Ad, and thamud; the People of Abraham, the men of Midian, and the cities overthrown. To them came their messengers with clear signs. It is not Allah Who wrongs them, but they wrong their own souls.

(3) To the thamud People (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. It is He Who hath produced you from the earth and settled you therein: then ask forgiveness of Him, and turn to Him (in repentance): for my Lord is (always) near, ready to answer."

(4) As if they had never dwelt and flourished there. Ah! Behold! for the thamud rejected their Lord and Cherisher! Ah! Behold! removed (from sight) were the thamud!

(5) As if they had never dwelt and flourished there! Ah! Behold! How the Madyan were removed (from sight) as were removed the thamud!

(6) Has not the story reached you, (O people!), of those who (went) before you? - of the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and thamud? - And of those who (came) after them? None knows them but Allah. To them came messengers with Clear (Signs); but they put their hands up to their mouths, and said: "We do deny (the mission) on which ye have been sent, and we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which ye invite us."

(7) And We refrain from sending the signs, only because the men of former generations treated them as false: We sent the she-camel to the thamud to open their eyes, but they treated her wrongfully: We only send the Signs by way of terror (and warning from evil).

(8) If they treat thy (mission) as false, so did the peoples before them (with their prophets),- the People of Noah, and 'Ad and thamud;

(9) As also 'Ad and thamud, and the Companions of the Rass, and many a generation between them.

(10) The thamud (people) rejected the messengers.
