(1) And We made it an example to their own and to succeeding generations, and an admonition to the Allah-fearing.

(3) Evil as an example are the folk who denied Our revelations, and were wont to wrong themselves.

(4) Tell those who disbelieve that if they cease (from persecution of believers) that which is past will be forgiven them; but if they return (thereto) then the example of the men of old hath already gone (before them, for a warning).

(5) Is he (to be counted equal with them) who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord, and a witness from Him reciteth it, and before it was the Book of Moses, an example and a mercy? Such believe therein, and whoso disbelieveth therein of the clans, the Fire is his appointed place. So be not thou in doubt concerning it. Lo! it is the Truth from thy Lord; but most of mankind believe not.

(6) And (have ye not) dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves (of old) and (hath it not) become plain to you how We dealt with them and made examples for you?

(7) They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before.

(8) And verily We have sent down for you revelations that make plain, and the example of those who passed away before you. An admonition unto those who ward off (evil).

(9) Each (of them) We warned by examples, and each (of them) We brought to utter ruin.

(10) And We desired to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors,
