(41) "And ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn unto Him in repentance. Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving."

(43) They said: "O our father! Ask forgiveness (from Allah) for our sins, indeed we have been sinners."

(44) He said: "I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you, verily He! Only He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."

(45) They ask you to hasten the evil before the good, while (many) exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But verily, your Lord is full of forgiveness for mankind in spite of their wrong-doing. And verily, your Lord is (also) Severe in punishment.

(46) And We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except with truth, and the Hour is surely coming, so overlook (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) their faults with gracious forgiveness. [This was before the ordainment of Jihad - holy fighting in Allah's cause].

(47) And (remember) the Day when We shall raise up from each nation a witness (their Messenger), then, those who disbelieved will not be given leave (to put forward excuses), nor will they be allowed (to return to the world) to repent and ask for Allah's forgiveness (of their sins).

(48) And nothing prevents men from believing, (now) when the guidance (the Qur'an) has come to them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord, except that the ways of the ancients be repeated with them (i.e. their destruction decreed by Allah), or the torment be brought to them face to face?

(49) Ibrahim (Abraham) said: "Peace be on you! I will ask forgiveness of my Lord for you. Verily He is unto me Ever Most Gracious.

(50) Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance.
