(1) Those who show patience, Firmness and self-control; who are true (in word and deed); who worship devoutly; who spend (in the way of Allah); and who pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.

(2) Lost indeed are they who treat it as a falsehood that they must meet Allah,- until on a sudden the hour is on them, and they say: "Ah! woe unto us that we took no thought of it"; for they bear their burdens on their backs, and evil indeed are the burdens that they bear?

(3) Say: "Think ye to yourselves, if there come upon you the wrath of Allah, or the hour (that ye dread), would ye then call upon other than Allah?- (reply) if ye are truthful!

(4) To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation).

(5) They ask thee about the (final) hour - when will be its appointed time? Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (alone): None but He can reveal as to when it will occur. Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will it come to you." They ask thee as if thou Wert eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know not."

(6) One day He will gather them together: (It will be) as if they had tarried but an hour of a day: they will recognise each other: assuredly those will be lost who denied the meeting with Allah and refused to receive true guidance.

(7) Say: "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except as Allah willeth. To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation)."

(8) Do they then feel secure from the coming against them of the covering veil of the wrath of Allah,- or of the coming against them of the (final) hour all of a sudden while they perceive not?

(9) We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness.

(10) And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the hour that is Certain.
