(21) The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the last Day, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are on true guidance.
(22) Do you consider the providing of drinking water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of Al-Masjidal-Haram (at Makkah) as equal to the worth of those who believe in Allah and the last Day, and strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah? They are not equal before Allah. And Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).
(23) Their Lord gives them glad tidings of Mercy from Him, and His being pleased (with them), and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein are everlasting delights.
(24) Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
(25) Those who believe in Allah and the last Day would not ask your leave to be exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives; and Allah is the All-Knower of Al-Muttaqun (the pious - See V.2:2).
(26) It is only those who believe not in Allah and the last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask your leave (to be exempted from Jihad). So in their doubts they waver.
(27) Allah has promised the hypocrites - men and women - and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell; therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allah has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment.
(28) And of the bedouins there are some who believe in Allah and the last Day, and look upon what they spend in Allah's Cause as means of nearness to Allah, and a cause of receiving the Messenger's invocations. Indeed these (spendings in Allah's Cause) are a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His Mercy. Certainly Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(29) Then it will be said to them who wronged themselves: "Taste you the everlasting torment! Are you recompensed (aught) save what you used to earn?"
(30) "And you will know who it is on whom will come a torment that will cover him with disgrace and on whom will fall a lasting torment."
