(1) There is no blame on you if ye make an offer of betrothal or hold it in your hearts. Allah knows that ye cherish them in your hearts: But do not make a secret contract with them except in terms Honourable, nor resolve on the tie of marriage till the term prescribed is fulfilled. And know that Allah Knoweth what is in your hearts, and take heed of Him; and know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Forbearing.

(2) So he resolved to remove them from the face of the earth: but We did drown him and all who were with him.

(3) We had already, beforehand, taken the covenant of Adam, but he forgot: and We found on his part no firm resolve.

(4) Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want, and those who have left their homes in Allah's cause: let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(5) Were it to obey and say what is just, and when a matter is resolved on, it were best for them if they were true to Allah.

(6) Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

(7) And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve.
