(211) If (We had) not (sent thee to the Quraish),- in case a calamity should seize them for (the deeds) that their hands have sent forth, they might say: "Our Lord! why didst Thou not sent us a messenger? We should then have followed Thy signs and been amongst those who believe!"

(212) But (now), when the Truth has come to them from Ourselves, they say, "Why are not (signs) sent to him, like those which were sent to Moses?" Do they not then reject (the signs) which were formerly sent to Moses? They say: "Two kinds of sorcery, each assisting the other!" And they say: "For us, we reject all (such things)!"

(213) Nor was thy Lord the one to destroy a population until He had sent to its centre a messenger, rehearsing to them Our signs; nor are We going to destroy a population except when its members practise iniquity.

(214) And let nothing keep thee back from the signs of Allah after they have been revealed to thee: and invite (men) to thy Lord, and be not of the company of those who join gods with Allah.

(215) Those who reject the signs of Allah and the Meeting with Him (in the Hereafter),- it is they who shall despair of My Mercy: it is they who will (suffer) a most grievous Penalty.

(216) So naught was the answer of (Abraham's) people except that they said: "Slay him or burn him." But Allah did save him from the Fire. Verily in this are signs for people who believe.

(217) (Remember also) Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman: there came to them Moses with Clear signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us).

(218) And thus (it is) that We have sent down the Book to thee. So the People of the Book believe therein, as also do some of these (pagan Arabs): and none but Unbelievers reject our signs.

(219) Nay, here are signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject Our signs.

(220) Ye they say: "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "The signs are indeed with Allah: and I am indeed a clear Warner."
