(1) Thus We let some of the wrong-doers have power over others because of what they are wont to earn.

(2) We divided them into twelve tribes, nations; and We inspired Moses, when his people asked him for water, saying: Smite with thy staff the rock! And there gushed forth therefrom twelve springs, so that each tribe knew their drinking-place. And we caused the white cloud to overshadow them and sent down for them the manna and the quails (saying): Eat of the good things wherewith we have provided you. They wronged Us not, but they were wont to wrong themselves.

(3) Evil as an example are the folk who denied Our revelations, and were wont to wrong themselves.

(4) They have purchased with the revelations of Allah a little gain, so they debar (men) from His way. Lo! evil is that which they are wont to do.

(5) Those are they for whom is naught in the Hereafter save the Fire. (All) that they contrive here is vain and (all) that they are wont to do is fruitless.

(6) And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not.

(7) And unto those who are Jews We have forbidden that which We have already related unto thee. And We wronged them not, but they were wont to wrong themselves.

(8) He will say: My Lord! Wherefor hast Thou gathered me (hither) blind, when I was wont to see?

(9) Whoso is wont to think (through envy) that Allah will not give him (Muhammad) victory in the world and the Hereafter (and is enraged at the thought of his victory), let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself. Then let him see whether his strategy dispelleth that whereat he rageth!.

(10) And (all) that she was wont to worship instead of Allah hindered her, for she came of disbelieving folk.
