(1) And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth [i.e. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is allah's messenger and his qualities are written in your Scriptures, the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] while you know (the truth).

(2) Whoever is an enemy to allah, His Angels, His messengers, Jibril (Gabriel) and Mika'il (Michael), then verily, allah is an enemy to the disbelievers."

(3) And when there came to them a messenger from allah (i.e. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of allah behind their backs as if they did not know!

(4) Many of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their ownselves, even after the truth (that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is allah's messenger) has become manifest unto them. But forgive and overlook, till allah brings His Command. Verily, allah is Able to do all things.

(5) Our Lord! Send amongst them a messenger of their own (and indeed allah answered their invocation by sending Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Qur'an) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood), and purify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

(6) Thus We have made you [true Muslims - real believers of Islamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Sunnah (legal ways)], a just (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) be a witness over you. And We made the Qiblah (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face, only to test those who followed the messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from those who would turn on their heels (i.e. disobey the messenger). Indeed it was great (heavy) except for those whom allah guided. And allah would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered towards Jerusalem). Truly, allah is full of Kindness, the Most Merciful towards mankind.

(7) Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the Help of allah?" Yes! Certainly, the Help of allah is near!

(8) These are the Verses of allah, We recite them to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in truth, and surely, you are one of the messengers (of allah).

(9) Those messengers! We preferred some of them to others; to some of them allah spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to 'Îsa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidence, and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. If allah had willed, succeeding generations would not have fought against each other, after clear Verses of allah had come to them, but they differed - some of them believed and others disbelieved. If allah had willed, they would not have fought against one another, but allah does what He likes.

(10) And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from allah and His messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums).
