(2) They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect-

(3) Hath not the story reached them of those before them?- the People of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud; the People of Abraham, the men of Midian, and the cities overthrown. To them came their messengers with clear signs. It is not Allah Who wrongs them, but they wrong their own souls.

(4) When Our Decree issued, We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on layer,-

(6) And the (cities were) right on the high-road.

(7) They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the cities heralds to collect-

(8) Then Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the cities,

(9) Between them and the cities on which We had poured our blessings, We had placed cities in prominent positions, and between them We had appointed stages of journey in due proportion: "Travel therein, secure, by night and by day."

(10) Thus have We sent by inspiration to thee an Arabic Qur'an: that thou mayest warn the Mother of cities and all around her,- and warn (them) of the Day of Assembly, of which there is no doubt: (when) some will be in the Garden, and some in the Blazing Fire.
