(1) And when We appointed a time of forty nights with Musa, then you took the calf (for a god) after him and you were unjust.

(2) And We appointed with Musa a time of thirty nights and completed them with ten (more), so the appointed time of his Lord was complete forty nights, and Musa said to his brother Haroun: Take my place among my people, and act well and do not follow the way of the mischief-makers.

(3) He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health.

(4) And We made between them and the towns which We had blessed (other) towns to be easily seen, and We apportioned the journey therein: Travel through them nights and days, secure.

(5) Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms.
