(12) Say: "The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls. Then you shall be brought to your Lord."

(13) So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him."

(14) It is Allah Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep. He keeps those (souls) for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed. Verily, in this are signs for a people who think deeply.

(15) Then how (will it be) when the angels will take their souls at death, smiting their faces and their backs?

(16) Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?

(17) But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, (Tafsir At-Tabari)

(18) Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?

(19) Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),

(20) By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence.
