(81) Or lest ye should say: "If the book had only been sent down to us, we should have followed its guidance better than they." Now then hath come unto you a clear (sign) from your Lord,- and a guide and a mercy: then who could do more wrong than one who rejecteth Allah's signs, and turneth away therefrom? In good time shall We requite those who turn away from Our signs, with a dreadful penalty, for their turning away.

(82) A book revealed unto thee,- So let thy heart be oppressed no more by any difficulty on that account,- that with it thou mightest warn (the erring) and teach the Believers).

(83) Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Signs? For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: "Where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have left us in the lurch," And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.

(84) For We had certainly sent unto them a book, based on knowledge, which We explained in detail,- a guide and a mercy to all who believe.

(85) If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them (All kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected (the truth), and We brought them to book for their misdeeds.

(86) After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the book, but they chose (for themselves) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant of the book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand?

(87) As to those who hold fast by the book and establish regular prayer,- never shall We suffer the reward of the righteous to perish.

(88) "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous.

(89) And those who accept Faith subsequently, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith in your company,- they are of you. But kindred by blood have prior rights against each other in the book of Allah. Verily Allah is well-acquainted with all things.

(90) Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
