(141) [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!"
(142) [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you?
(143) He calls besides Allah unto that which can neither harm him, nor profit him. That is a straying far away.
(144) See you not that whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawabb [moving (living) creatures, beasts], and many of mankind prostrate themselves to Allah. But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allah disgraces, none can honour him. Verily, Allah does what He wills.
(145) O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatches away a thing from them, they will have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought.
(146) No nation can advance their term, nor can they delay it.
(147) Say "In Whose Hand is the sovereignty of everything (i.e. treasures of each and everything)? And He protects (all), while against Whom there is no protector, (i.e. if Allah saves anyone none can punish or harm him, and if Allah punishes or harms anyone none can save him), if you know?" [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]
(148) Or [the state of a disbeliever] is like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with waves topped by waves, topped by dark clouds, (layers of) darkness upon darkness: if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! And he for whom Allah has not appointed light, for him there is no light.
(149) Consider not that the disbelievers can escape in the land. Their abode shall be the Fire - and worst indeed is that destination.
(150) See how they coin similitudes for you, so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) Path.
