(31) He cannot be questioned concerning what He does and they shall be questioned.

(32) O people! a parable is set forth, therefore listen to it: surely those whom you call upon besides Allah cannot create fly, though they should all gather for it, and should the fly snatch away anything from them, they could not take it back from it; weak are the invoker and the invoked.

(33) Nor can you be a guide to the blind out of their error; you cannot make to hear (any one) except those who believe in Our communications, so they submit.

(34) And when he came to the water of Madyan, he found on it a group of men watering, and he found besides them two women keeping back (their flocks). He said: What is the matter with you? They said: We cannot water until the shepherds take away (their sheep) from the water, and our father is a very old man.

(35) Surely you cannot guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He pleases, and He knows best the followers of the right way.

(36) Then turn thy face straight to the right religion before there come from Allah the day which cannot be averted; on that day they shall become separated.

(37) For surely you cannot, make the dead to hear and you cannot make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.

(38) Nor can you lead away the blind out of their error. You cannot make to hear any but those who believe in Our communications so they shall submit.

(39) Say: You have the appointment of a day from which you cannot hold back any while, nor can you bring it on.

(40) And a burdened soul cannot bear the burden of another and if one weighed down by burden should cry for (another to carry) its burden, not aught of it shall be carried, even though he be near of kin. You warn only those who fear their Lord in secret and keep up prayer; and whoever purifies himself, he purifies himself only for (the good of) his own soul; and to Allah is the eventual coming.
