(1221) O you who believe! obey Allah and obey the Apostle, and do not make your deeds of no effect.

(1222) And be not slack so as to cry for peace and you have the upper hand, and Allah is with you, and He will not bring your deeds to naught.

(1223) The life of this world is only idle sport and play, and if you believe and guard (against evil) He will give you your rewards, and will not ask of you your possessions.

(1224) If He should ask you for it and urge you, you will be niggardly, and He will bring forth your malice.

(1225) Behold! you are those who are called upon to spend in Allah's way, but among you are those who are niggardly, and whoever is niggardly is niggardly against his own soul; and Allah is Self-sufficient and you have need (of Him), and if you turn back He will bring in your place another people, then they will not be like you.

(1226) That Allah may forgive your community their past faults and those to follow and complete His favor to you and keep you on a right way,

(1227) Those of the dwellers of the desert who were left behind will say to you: our property and our families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us. They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: Then who can control anything for you from Allah if He intends to do you harm or if He intends to do you good; nay, Allah is Aware of what you do:

(1228) Nay! you rather thought that the Apostle and the believers would not return to their families ever, and that was made fairseeming to your hearts and you thought an evil thought and you were a people doomed to perish.

(1229) Such has been the course of Allah that has indeed run before, and you shall not find a change in Allah's course.

(1230) And He it is Who held back their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca after He had given you victory over them; and Allah is Seeing what you do.
