(1) Such were the 'Ad People: they rejected the Signs of their Lord and Cherisher; disobeyed His messengers; And followed the command of every powerful, obstinate transgressor.

(2) He said: "Would that I had power to suppress you or that I could betake myself to some powerful support."

(3) But they sought victory and decision (there and then), and frustration was the lot of every powerful obstinate transgressor.

(4) It is Allah who creates you and takes your souls at death; and of you there are some who are sent back to a feeble age, so that they know nothing after having known (much): for Allah is All-Knowing, All-powerful.

(5) To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to fight), because they are wronged;- and verily, Allah is most powerful for their aid;-

(6) Then, when he decided to lay hold of the man who was an enemy to both of them, that man said: "O Moses! Is it thy intention to slay me as thou slewest a man yesterday? Thy intention is none other than to become a powerful violent man in the land, and not to be one who sets things right!"

(7) Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them,- though they were superior to them in strength? Nor is Allah to be frustrated by anything whatever in the heavens or on earth: for He is All-Knowing. All-powerful.

(8) And that Allah may help thee with powerful help.

(9) And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people),

(10) A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan.
