1  
وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا
Transliteration 1: WaalnnaziAAati gharqan
Yusuf Ali 1: By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;
Mohsin Khan: 1: By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence.
Saheeh: 1: By those [angels] who extract with violence
Urdu 1: جورڑوں میں گھس کر نکالنے والوں کی قسم ہے


2  
وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا
Transliteration 2: Waalnnashitati nashtan
Yusuf Ali 2: By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);
Mohsin Khan: 2: By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers).
Saheeh: 2: And [by] those who remove with ease
Urdu 2: اور بند کھولنے والوں کی


3  
وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا
Transliteration 3: Waalssabihati sabhan
Yusuf Ali 3: And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy),
Mohsin Khan: 3: And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits).
Saheeh: 3: And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming
Urdu 3: اورتیزی سے تیرنے والوں کی


4  
فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا
Transliteration 4: Faalssabiqati sabqan
Yusuf Ali 4: Then press forward as in a race,
Mohsin Khan: 4: And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses).
Saheeh: 4: And those who race each other in a race
Urdu 4: پھر دوڑ کر آگے بڑھ جانے والوں کی


5  
فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا
Transliteration 5: Faalmudabbirati amran
Yusuf Ali 5: Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord),
Mohsin Khan: 5: And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account).
Saheeh: 5: And those who arrange [each] matter,
Urdu 5: پھر ہر امر کی تدبیر کرنے والوں کی


6  
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ
Transliteration 6: Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu
Yusuf Ali 6: One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion,
Mohsin Khan: 6: On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die).
Saheeh: 6: On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],
Urdu 6: جس دن کانپنے والی کانپے گی


7  
تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ
Transliteration 7: TatbaAAuha alrradifatu
Yusuf Ali 7: Followed by oft-repeated (commotions):
Mohsin Khan: 7: The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be resurrected).
Saheeh: 7: There will follow it the subsequent [one].
Urdu 7: اس کے پیچھے آنے والی پیچھے آئے گی


8  
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
Transliteration 8: Quloobun yawmaithin wajifatun
Yusuf Ali 8: Hearts that Day will be in agitation;
Mohsin Khan: 8: (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety.
Saheeh: 8: Hearts, that Day, will tremble,
Urdu 8: کئی دل اس دن دھڑک رہے ہوں گے


9  
أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ
Transliteration 9: Absaruha khashiAAatun
Yusuf Ali 9: Cast down will be (their owners') eyes.
Mohsin Khan: 9: Their eyes will be downcast.
Saheeh: 9: Their eyes humbled.
Urdu 9: ان کی آنکھیں جھکی ہوئی ہوں گی


10  
يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ
Transliteration 10: Yaqooloona ainna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati
Yusuf Ali 10: They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state?
Mohsin Khan: 10: They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life?
Saheeh: 10: They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?
Urdu 10: وہ کہتے ہیں کیا ہم پہلی حالت میں لوٹائے جائیں گے


11  
أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً
Transliteration 11: Aitha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan
Yusuf Ali 11: "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?"
Mohsin Khan: 11: "Even after we are crumbled bones?"
Saheeh: 11: Even if we should be decayed bones?
Urdu 11: کیا جب ہم بوسیدہ ہڈیاں ہوجائیں گے


12  
قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
Transliteration 12: Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun
Yusuf Ali 12: They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!"
Mohsin Khan: 12: They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!"
Saheeh: 12: They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."
Urdu 12: کہتے ہیں کہ یہ تو اس وقت خسارہ کا لوٹنا ہوگا


13  
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ
Transliteration 13: Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun
Yusuf Ali 13: But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry,
Mohsin Khan: 13: But it will be only a single Zajrah [shout (i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)], (See Verse 37:19).
Saheeh: 13: Indeed, it will be but one shout,
Urdu 13: پھر وہ واقعہ صرف ایک ہی ہیبت ناک آواز ہے


14  
فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ
Transliteration 14: Faitha hum bialssahirati
Yusuf Ali 14: When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment).
Mohsin Khan: 14: When behold, they find themselves on the surface of the earth alive after their death,
Saheeh: 14: And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.
Urdu 14: پس وہ اسی وقت میدان میں آ موجود ہوں گے


15  
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ
Transliteration 15: Hal ataka hadeethu moosa
Yusuf Ali 15: Has the story of Moses reached thee?
Mohsin Khan: 15: Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)?
Saheeh: 15: Has there reached you the story of Moses? -
Urdu 15: کیا آپ کو موسیٰ کا حال معلوم ہوا ہے


16  
إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
Transliteration 16: Ith nadahu rabbuhu bialwadi almuqaddasi tuwan
Yusuf Ali 16: Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:-
Mohsin Khan: 16: When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
Saheeh: 16: When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
Urdu 16: جب کہ مقدس وادی طویٰ میں اس کے رب نے اسےپکارا


17  
اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ
Transliteration 17: Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
Yusuf Ali 17: "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds:
Mohsin Khan: 17: Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh); verily he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief).
Saheeh: 17: "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
Urdu 17: فرعون کے پاس جاؤ کیونکہ اس نے سرکشی کی ہے


18  
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Transliteration 18: Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka
Yusuf Ali 18: "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?-
Mohsin Khan: 18: And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)?"
Saheeh: 18: And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
Urdu 18: پس کہو کیا تیری خواہش ہے کہ تو پاک ہو


19  
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ
Transliteration 19: Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
Yusuf Ali 19: "'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'"
Mohsin Khan: 19: "And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him?"
Saheeh: 19: And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"
Urdu 19: اور میں تجھے تیرے رب کی طرف راہ بتاؤں کہ تو ڈرے


20  
فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Transliteration 20: Faarahu alayata alkubra
Yusuf Ali 20: Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.
Mohsin Khan: 20: Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles).
Saheeh: 20: And he showed him the greatest sign,
Urdu 20: پس اس نے اس کو بڑی نشانی دکھائی


21  
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
Transliteration 21: Fakaththaba waAAasa
Yusuf Ali 21: But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);
Mohsin Khan: 21: But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed.
Saheeh: 21: But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.
Urdu 21: تو اس نے جھٹلایا اور نافرمانی کی


22  
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
Transliteration 22: Thumma adbara yasAAa
Yusuf Ali 22: Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).
Mohsin Khan: 22: Then he turned his back, striving (against Allah).
Saheeh: 22: Then he turned his back, striving.
Urdu 22: پھر کوشش کرتا ہوا واپس لوٹا


23  
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
Transliteration 23: Fahashara fanada
Yusuf Ali 23: Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation,
Mohsin Khan: 23: Then he gathered (his people) and cried aloud,
Saheeh: 23: And he gathered [his people] and called out
Urdu 23: پھر اس نے سب کو جمع کیا پھر پکارا


24  
فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ
Transliteration 24: Faqala ana rabbukumu alaAAla
Yusuf Ali 24: Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High".
Mohsin Khan: 24: Saying: "I am your lord, most high."
Saheeh: 24: And said, "I am your most exalted lord."
Urdu 24: پھر کہا کہ میں تمہارا سب سے برتر رب ہوں


25  
فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ
Transliteration 25: Faakhathahu Allahu nakala alakhirati waaloola
Yusuf Ali 25: But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.
Mohsin Khan: 25: So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last and first transgression. [Tafsir At-Tabari]
Saheeh: 25: So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
Urdu 25: پھر الله نے اس کو آخرت اور دنیا کے عذاب میں پکڑ لیا


26  
إِنَّ فِي ذَ‌ٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
Transliteration 26: Inna fee thalika laAAibratan liman yakhsha
Yusuf Ali 26: Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah).
Mohsin Khan: 26: Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah.
Saheeh: 26: Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah].
Urdu 26: بے شک اس میں اس کے لیے عبرت ہے جو ڈرتا ہے


27  
أَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ ۚ بَنَاهَا
Transliteration 27: Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami alssamao banaha
Yusuf Ali 27: What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it:
Mohsin Khan: 27: Are you more difficult to create or is the heaven that He constructed?
Saheeh: 27: Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.
Urdu 27: کیا تمہارا بنانا بڑی بات ہے یا آسمان کا جس کو ہم نے بنایا ہے


28  
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا
Transliteration 28: RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
Yusuf Ali 28: On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection.
Mohsin Khan: 28: He raised its height, and has perfected it.
Saheeh: 28: He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.
Urdu 28: ا سکی چھت بلند کی پھر اس کو سنوارا


29  
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا
Transliteration 29: Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha
Yusuf Ali 29: Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light).
Mohsin Khan: 29: Its night He covers with darkness and its forenoon He brings out (with light)
Saheeh: 29: And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.
Urdu 29: اور اس کی رات اندھیری کی اور اس کے دن کو ظاہر کیا


30  
وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَ‌ٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا
Transliteration 30: Waalarda baAAda thalika dahaha
Yusuf Ali 30: And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);
Mohsin Khan: 30: And after that He spread the earth,
Saheeh: 30: And after that He spread the earth.
Urdu 30: اور اس کے بعد زمین کو بچھا دیا


31  
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا
Transliteration 31: Akhraja minha maaha wamarAAaha
Yusuf Ali 31: He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture;
Mohsin Khan: 31: And brought forth therefrom its water and its pasture.
Saheeh: 31: He extracted from it its water and its pasture,
Urdu 31: اس سے اس کا پانی اور اس کا چارا نکالا


32  
وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا
Transliteration 32: Waaljibala arsaha
Yusuf Ali 32: And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;-
Mohsin Khan: 32: And the mountains He has fixed firmly,
Saheeh: 32: And the mountains He set firmly
Urdu 32: او رپہاڑوں کو خوب جما دیا


33  
مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
Transliteration 33: MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum
Yusuf Ali 33: For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
Mohsin Khan: 33: (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.
Saheeh: 33: As provision for you and your grazing livestock.
Urdu 33: تمہارے لیے اور تمہارے چار پایوں کے لیے سامان حیات ہے


34  
فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Transliteration 34: Faitha jaati alttammatu alkubra
Yusuf Ali 34: Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),-
Mohsin Khan: 34: But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense) -
Saheeh: 34: But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -
Urdu 34: پس جب وہ بڑا حادثہ آئے گا


35  
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ
Transliteration 35: Yawma yatathakkaru alinsanu ma saAAa
Yusuf Ali 35: The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for,
Mohsin Khan: 35: The Day when man shall remember what he strove for.
Saheeh: 35: The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,
Urdu 35: جس دن انسان اپنے کیے کو یاد کرے گا


36  
وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
Transliteration 36: Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
Yusuf Ali 36: And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,-
Mohsin Khan: 36: And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees.
Saheeh: 36: And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -
Urdu 36: اور ہر دیکھنے والے کے لیے دوزخ سامنے لائی جائے گی


37  
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
Transliteration 37: Faamma man tagha
Yusuf Ali 37: Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds,
Mohsin Khan: 37: Then for him who transgressed all bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah).
Saheeh: 37: So as for he who transgressed
Urdu 37: سو جس نے سرکشی کی


38  
وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Transliteration 38: Waathara alhayata alddunya
Yusuf Ali 38: And had preferred the life of this world,
Mohsin Khan: 38: And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts),
Saheeh: 38: And preferred the life of the world,
Urdu 38: اور دنیا کی زندگی کو ترجیح دی


39  
فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ
Transliteration 39: Fainna aljaheema hiya almawa
Yusuf Ali 39: The Abode will be Hell-Fire;
Mohsin Khan: 39: Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire;
Saheeh: 39: Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
Urdu 39: سو بے شک اس کا ٹھکانا دوزخ ہی ہے


40  
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
Transliteration 40: Waama man khafa maqama rabbihi wanaha alnnafsa AAani alhawa
Yusuf Ali 40: And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires,
Mohsin Khan: 40: But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires and lusts.
Saheeh: 40: But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
Urdu 40: اور لیکن جو اپنے رب کے سامنے کھڑا ہونے سے ڈرتارہا اور اس نے اپنے نفس کو بری خواہش سے روکا


41  
فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ
Transliteration 41: Fainna aljannata hiya almawa
Yusuf Ali 41: Their abode will be the Garden.
Mohsin Khan: 41: Verily, Paradise will be his abode.
Saheeh: 41: Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
Urdu 41: سو بے شک اس کا ٹھکانا بہشت ہی ہے


42  
يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا
Transliteration 42: Yasaloonaka AAani alssaAAati ayyana mursaha
Yusuf Ali 42: They ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time?
Mohsin Khan: 42: They ask you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) about the Hour - when will be its appointed time?
Saheeh: 42: They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?
Urdu 42: آپ سے قیامت کی بابت پوچھتے ہیں کہ اس کا قیام کب ہوگا


43  
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَاهَا
Transliteration 43: Feema anta min thikraha
Yusuf Ali 43: Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof?
Mohsin Khan: 43: You have no knowledge to say anything about it.
Saheeh: 43: In what [position] are you that you should mention it?
Urdu 43: آپ کو اس کےذکر سے کیا واسطہ


44  
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَاهَا
Transliteration 44: Ila rabbika muntahaha
Yusuf Ali 44: With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor.
Mohsin Khan: 44: To your Lord belongs (the knowledge of) the term thereof?
Saheeh: 44: To your Lord is its finality.
Urdu 44: اس کے علم کی انتہا آپ کے رب ہی کی طرف ہے


45  
إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا
Transliteration 45: Innama anta munthiru man yakhshaha
Yusuf Ali 45: Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it.
Mohsin Khan: 45: You (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are only a warner for those who fear it,
Saheeh: 45: You are only a warner for those who fear it.
Urdu 45: بے شک آپ تو صرف اس کو ڈرانے والے ہیں جو اس سے ڈرتا ہے


46  
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا
Transliteration 46: Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lam yalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
Yusuf Ali 46: The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!
Mohsin Khan: 46: The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had not tarried (in this world) except an afternoon or a morning.
Saheeh: 46: It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
Urdu 46: جس دن اسے دیکھ لیں گے (تو یہی سمجھیں گے کہ دنیا میں) گویا ہم ایک شام یا اس کی صبح تک ٹھیرے تھے
