عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
Transliteration 1: AAabasa watawalla
Yusuf Ali 1: (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,
Mohsin Khan: 1: (The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) frowned and turned away.
Saheeh: 1: The Prophet frowned and turned away
Urdu 1: پیغمبر چین بجیں ہوئے اور منہ موڑ لیا

أَن جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ
Transliteration 2: An jaahu alaAAma
Yusuf Ali 2: Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).
Mohsin Khan: 2: Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs).
Saheeh: 2: Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].
Urdu 2: کہ ان کے پاس ایک اندھا آیا

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ
Transliteration 3: Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka
Yusuf Ali 3: But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-
Mohsin Khan: 3: And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?
Saheeh: 3: But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified
Urdu 3: اور آپ کو کیا معلوم کہ شاید وہ پاک ہوجائے

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Transliteration 4: Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra
Yusuf Ali 4: Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
Mohsin Khan: 4: Or he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him?
Saheeh: 4: Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
Urdu 4: یا وہ نصیحت پکڑ لے تو اس کو نصیحت نفع دے

أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
Transliteration 5: Amma mani istaghna
Yusuf Ali 5: As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,
Mohsin Khan: 5: As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,
Saheeh: 5: As for he who thinks himself without need,
Urdu 5: لیکن وہ جو پروا نہیں کرتا

فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ
Transliteration 6: Faanta lahu tasadda
Yusuf Ali 6: To him dost thou attend;
Mohsin Khan: 6: To him you attend;
Saheeh: 6: To him you give attention.
Urdu 6: سو آپ کے لیے توجہ کرتے ہیں

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
Transliteration 7: Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka
Yusuf Ali 7: Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).
Mohsin Khan: 7: What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief: you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah).
Saheeh: 7: And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.
Urdu 7: حالانکہ آپ پر اس کےنہ سدھرنے کا کوئی الزام نہیں

وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ
Transliteration 8: Waamma man jaaka yasAAa
Yusuf Ali 8: But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,
Mohsin Khan: 8: But as to him who came to you running,
Saheeh: 8: But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
Urdu 8: اور لیکن جو آپ کے پاس دوڑتا ہوا آیا

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ
Transliteration 9: Wahuwa yakhsha
Yusuf Ali 9: And with fear (in his heart),
Mohsin Khan: 9: And is afraid (of Allah and His punishment).
Saheeh: 9: While he fears [Allah],
Urdu 9: اور وہ ڈر رہا ہے

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
Transliteration 10: Faanta AAanhu talahha
Yusuf Ali 10: Of him wast thou unmindful.
Mohsin Khan: 10: Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another,
Saheeh: 10: From him you are distracted.
Urdu 10: تو آپ اس سے بے پروائی کرتے ہیں

كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
Transliteration 11: Kalla innaha tathkiratun
Yusuf Ali 11: By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:
Mohsin Khan: 11: Nay, (do not do like this); indeed it (this Qur'an) is an admonition.
Saheeh: 11: No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;
Urdu 11: ایسا نہیں چاہیئے بے شک یہ تو ایک نصیحت ہے

فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ
Transliteration 12: Faman shaa thakarahu
Yusuf Ali 12: Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.
Mohsin Khan: 12: So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it.
Saheeh: 12: So whoever wills may remember it.
Urdu 12: پس جو چاہے اس کو یاد کرے

فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
Transliteration 13: Fee suhufin mukarramatin
Yusuf Ali 13: (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,
Mohsin Khan: 13: (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz),
Saheeh: 13: [It is recorded] in honored sheets,
Urdu 13: وہ عزت والے صحیفوں میں ہے

مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ
Transliteration 14: MarfooAAatin mutahharatin
Yusuf Ali 14: Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,
Mohsin Khan: 14: Exalted (in dignity), purified,
Saheeh: 14: Exalted and purified,
Urdu 14: جو بلند مرتبہ اور پاک ہیں

بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ
Transliteration 15: Biaydee safaratin
Yusuf Ali 15: (Written) by the hands of scribes-
Mohsin Khan: 15: In the hands of scribes (angels).
Saheeh: 15: [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,
Urdu 15: ان لکھنے والوں کے ہاتھوں میں

كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ
Transliteration 16: Kiramin bararatin
Yusuf Ali 16: Honourable and Pious and Just.
Mohsin Khan: 16: Honourable and obedient.
Saheeh: 16: Noble and dutiful.
Urdu 16: جو بڑے بزرگ نیکو کار ہیں

قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ
Transliteration 17: Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu
Yusuf Ali 17: Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah;
Mohsin Khan: 17: Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is!
Saheeh: 17: Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.
Urdu 17: انسان پر خدا کی مار وہ کیسا ناشکرا ہے

مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ
Transliteration 18: Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu
Yusuf Ali 18: From what stuff hath He created him?
Mohsin Khan: 18: From what thing did He create him?
Saheeh: 18: From what substance did He create him?
Urdu 18: اس نے کس چیز سے اس کو بنایا

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ
Transliteration 19: Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu
Yusuf Ali 19: From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;
Mohsin Khan: 19: From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him and then set him in due proportion.
Saheeh: 19: From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;
Urdu 19: ایک بوند سے اس کوبنایا پھر اس کا اندزہ ٹھیرایا

ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ
Transliteration 20: Thumma alssabeela yassarahu
Yusuf Ali 20: Then doth He make His path smooth for him;
Mohsin Khan: 20: Then He makes the Path easy for him.
Saheeh: 20: Then He eased the way for him;
Urdu 20: پھراس پر راستہ آسان کر دیا

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ
Transliteration 21: Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu
Yusuf Ali 21: Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;
Mohsin Khan: 21: Then He causes him to die and puts him in his grave.
Saheeh: 21: Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
Urdu 21: پھر اس کو موت دی پھر اس کو قبر میں رکھوایا

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنشَرَهُ
Transliteration 22: Thumma itha shaa ansharahu
Yusuf Ali 22: Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).
Mohsin Khan: 22: Then when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again).
Saheeh: 22: Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
Urdu 22: پھر جب چاہے گا اٹھا کر کھڑا کرے گا

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ
Transliteration 23: Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu
Yusuf Ali 23: By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
Mohsin Khan: 23: Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him.
Saheeh: 23: No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
Urdu 23: ایسا نہیں چاہیئے اس نے تعمیل نہیں کی جو اس کو حکم دیا تھا

فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ
Transliteration 24: Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi
Yusuf Ali 24: Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):
Mohsin Khan: 24: Then let man look at his food:
Saheeh: 24: Then let mankind look at his food -
Urdu 24: پس انسان کو اپنے کھانے کی طرف غور کرنا چاہیئے

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا
Transliteration 25: Anna sababna almaa sabban
Yusuf Ali 25: For that We pour forth water in abundance,
Mohsin Khan: 25: We pour forth water in abundance.
Saheeh: 25: How We poured down water in torrents,
Urdu 25: کہ ہم نے اوپر سے مینہ برسایا

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
Transliteration 26: Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan
Yusuf Ali 26: And We split the earth in fragments,
Mohsin Khan: 26: And We split the earth in clefts.
Saheeh: 26: Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
Urdu 26: پھر ہم نے زمین کو چیر کر پھاڑا

فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
Transliteration 27: Faanbatna feeha habban
Yusuf Ali 27: And produce therein corn,
Mohsin Khan: 27: And We cause therein the grain to grow,
Saheeh: 27: And caused to grow within it grain
Urdu 27: پھر ہم نے اس میں اناج ا گایا

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
Transliteration 28: WaAAinaban waqadban
Yusuf Ali 28: And Grapes and nutritious plants,
Mohsin Khan: 28: And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle),
Saheeh: 28: And grapes and herbage
Urdu 28: اورانگور اور ترکاریاں

وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
Transliteration 29: Wazaytoonan wanakhlan
Yusuf Ali 29: And Olives and Dates,
Mohsin Khan: 29: And olives and date-palms,
Saheeh: 29: And olive and palm trees
Urdu 29: اور زیتون اور کھجور

وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا
Transliteration 30: Wahadaiqa ghulban
Yusuf Ali 30: And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees,
Mohsin Khan: 30: And gardens dense with many trees,
Saheeh: 30: And gardens of dense shrubbery
Urdu 30: اور گھنے باغ

وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
Transliteration 31: Wafakihatan waabban
Yusuf Ali 31: And fruits and fodder,-
Mohsin Khan: 31: And fruits and herbage
Saheeh: 31: And fruit and grass -
Urdu 31: اور میوے اور گھاس

مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
Transliteration 32: MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum
Yusuf Ali 32: For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
Mohsin Khan: 32: (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.
Saheeh: 32: [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.
Urdu 32: تمہارے لیے اور تمہارے چار پایوں کے لیے سامان حیات

فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ
Transliteration 33: Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu
Yusuf Ali 33: At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-
Mohsin Khan: 33: Then when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the second blowing of the Trumpet on the Day of Resurrection)
Saheeh: 33: But when there comes the Deafening Blast
Urdu 33: پھر جس وقت کانوں کا بہرا کرنے والا شور برپا ہوگا

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
Transliteration 34: Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi
Yusuf Ali 34: That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,
Mohsin Khan: 34: That Day shall a man flee from his brother,
Saheeh: 34: On the Day a man will flee from his brother
Urdu 34: جس دن آدمی اپنے بھائی سے بھاگے گا

وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ
Transliteration 35: Waommihi waabeehi
Yusuf Ali 35: And from his mother and his father,
Mohsin Khan: 35: And from his mother and his father,
Saheeh: 35: And his mother and his father
Urdu 35: اور اپنی ماں اور باپ سے

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ
Transliteration 36: Wasahibatihi wabaneehi
Yusuf Ali 36: And from his wife and his children.
Mohsin Khan: 36: And from his wife and his children.
Saheeh: 36: And his wife and his children,
Urdu 36: اور اپنی بیوی اوراپنے بیٹوں سے

لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
Transliteration 37: Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi
Yusuf Ali 37: Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.
Mohsin Khan: 37: Everyman that Day will have enough to make him careless of others.
Saheeh: 37: For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.
Urdu 37: ہر شخص کی ایسی حالت ہوگی جو اس کو اوروں کی طرف سے بے پروا کر دے گی

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
Transliteration 38: Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun
Yusuf Ali 38: Some faces that Day will be beaming,
Mohsin Khan: 38: Some faces that Day will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism),
Saheeh: 38: [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -
Urdu 38: اورکچھ چہرے اس دن چمک رہے ہوں گے

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
Transliteration 39: Dahikatun mustabshiratun
Yusuf Ali 39: Laughing, rejoicing.
Mohsin Khan: 39: Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise).
Saheeh: 39: Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
Urdu 39: ہنستے ہوئے خوش و خرم

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
Transliteration 40: Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun
Yusuf Ali 40: And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,
Mohsin Khan: 40: And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained.
Saheeh: 40: And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
Urdu 40: اور کچھ چہرے اس دن ایسے ہوں گے کہ ان پر گرد پڑی ہو گی

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
Transliteration 41: Tarhaquha qataratun
Yusuf Ali 41: Blackness will cover them:
Mohsin Khan: 41: Darkness will cover them.
Saheeh: 41: Blackness will cover them.
Urdu 41: ان پر سیاہی چھا رہی ہو گی

أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ
Transliteration 42: Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu
Yusuf Ali 42: Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.
Mohsin Khan: 42: Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers).
Saheeh: 42: Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
Urdu 42: یہی لوگ ہیں منکر نافرمان
