| 58. | وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِالْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ |
| Transliteration: | Waitha bushshira ahaduhum bialontha thalla wajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa katheemun |
| Yusuf Ali: | When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief! |
| Shakir: | And when a daughter is announced to one of them his face becomes black and he is full of wrath. |
| Pickthall: | When if one of them receiveth tidings of the birth of a female, his face remaineth darkened, and he is wroth inwardly. |
| Mohsin Khan: | And when the news of (the birth of) a female (child) is brought to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief! |
| Saheeh: | And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. |
| Urdu: | اور جب ان میں سے کسی کی بیٹی کی خوشخبری دی جائے اس کا منہ سیاہ ہو جاتا ہے اور وہ غمگین ہوتا ہے |

| 59. | يَتَوَارَىٰ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ مِن سُوءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِ ۚ أَيُمْسِكُهُ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُ فِي التُّرَابِ ۗ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Yatawara mina alqawmi min sooi ma bushshira bihi ayumsikuhu AAala hoonin am yadussuhu fee altturabi ala saa ma yahkumoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on? |
| Shakir: | He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that which is announced to him. Shall he keep it with disgrace or bury it (alive) in the dust? Now surely evil is what they judge. |
| Pickthall: | He hideth himself from the folk because of the evil of that whereof he hath had tidings, (asking himself): Shall he keep it in contempt, or bury it beneath the dust. Verily evil is their judgment. |
| Mohsin Khan: | He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof he has been informed. Shall he keep her with dishonour or bury her in the earth ? Certainly, evil is their decision. |
| Saheeh: | He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide. |
| Urdu: | اس خوشخبری کی برائی باعث لوگوں سے چھپتا پھرتا ہے آیا اسے ذلت قبول کر کے رہنے دے یا اس کو مٹی میں دفن کر دے دیکھو کیا ہی برا فیصلہ کرتے ہیں |
