Transliteration:Innama alhayatu alddunya laAAibun walahwun wain tuminoo watattaqoo yutikum ojoorakum wala yasalkum amwalakum
Yusuf Ali:The life of this world is but play and amusement: and if ye believe and guard against Evil, He will grant you your recompense, and will not ask you (to give up) your possessions.
Shakir:The life of this world is only idle sport and play, and if you believe and guard (against evil) He will give you your rewards, and will not ask of you your possessions.
Pickthall:The life of the world is but a sport and a pastime. And if ye believe and ward off (evil). He will give you your wages, and will not ask of you your wordly wealth.
Mohsin Khan:The life of this world is but play and pastime; but if you believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and fear Allah, and avoid evil, He will grant you your wages, and will not ask you your wealth.
Saheeh:[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allah, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.

Transliteration:In yasalkumooha fayuhfikum tabkhaloo wayukhrij adghanakum
Yusuf Ali:If He were to ask you for all of them, and press you, ye would covetously withhold, and He would bring out all your ill-feeling.
Shakir:If He should ask you for it and urge you, you will be niggardly, and He will bring forth your malice.
Pickthall:If He should ask it of you and importune you, ye would hoard it, and He would bring to light your (secret) hates.
Mohsin Khan:If He were to ask you of it, and press you, you would covetously withhold, and He will bring out all your (secret) ill-wills.
Saheeh:If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your unwillingness.

Transliteration:Haantum haolai tudAAawna litunfiqoo fee sabeeli Allahi faminkum man yabkhalu waman yabkhal fainnama yabkhalu AAan nafsihi waAllahu alghaniyyu waantumu alfuqarao wain tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma la yakoonoo amthalakum
Yusuf Ali:Behold, ye are those invited to spend (of your substance) in the Way of Allah: But among you are some that are niggardly. But any who are niggardly are so at the expense of their own souls. But Allah is free of all wants, and it is ye that are needy. If ye turn back (from the Path), He will substitute in your stead another people; then they would not be like you!
Shakir:Behold! you are those who are called upon to spend in Allah's way, but among you are those who are niggardly, and whoever is niggardly is niggardly against his own soul; and Allah is Self-sufficient and you have need (of Him), and if you turn back He will bring in your place another people, then they will not be like you.
Pickthall:Lo! ye are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah, yet among you there are some who hoard. And as for him who hoardeth, he hoardeth only from his soul. And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor. And if ye turn away He will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.
Mohsin Khan:Behold! You are those who are called to spend in the Cause of Allah, yet among you are some who are niggardly. And whoever is niggardly, it is only at the expense of his ownself. But Allah is Rich (Free of all needs), and you (mankind) are poor. And if you turn away (from Islam and the obedience to Allah), He will exchange you for some other people and they will not be your likes.
Saheeh:Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allah - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allah is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
