(12) Nor sell the covenant of Allah for a miserable price: for with Allah is (a prize) far better for you, if ye only knew.

(13) "(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable;

(14) Then We said: "O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to thee and thy wife: so let him not get you both out of the Garden, so that thou art landed in misery.

(15) He said: "Get ye down, both of you,- all together, from the Garden, with enmity one to another: but if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from Me, whosoever follows My Guidance, will not lose his way, nor fall into misery.

(16) And how many populations We destroyed, which exulted in their life (of ease and plenty)! now those habitations of theirs, after them, are deserted,- All but a (miserable) few! and We are their heirs!

(17) The Day when no profit will it be to Wrong-doers to present their excuses, but they will (only) have the Curse and the Home of misery.

(18) But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient,

(19) We will indeed make smooth for him the path to misery;
