(1) The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom;

(2) Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one.

(3) Or say they: He hath invented it? Say: Then bring a surah like unto it, and call (for help) on all ye can besides Allah, if ye are truthful.

(4) Nay, but their hearts are in ignorance of this (Qur'an), and they have other works, besides, which they are doing;

(5) If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little.

(6) Or have they chosen protecting friends besides Him? But Allah, He (alone) is the Protecting Friend. He quickeneth the dead, and He is Able to do all things.

(7) And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.
