(24) "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)!

(25) So We exacted retribution from them: We drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our Signs and failed to take warning from them.

(26) And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride).

(27) When they disregarded the warnings that had been given them, We rescued those who forbade Evil; but We visited the wrong-doers with a grievous punishment because they were given to transgression.

(28) Or lest ye should say: "Our fathers before us may have taken false gods, but we are (their) descendants after them: wilt Thou then destroy us because of the deeds of men who were futile?"

(29) This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger: If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.

(30) That, and also because Allah is He Who makes feeble the plans and stratagem of the Unbelievers.
