(51) Truly pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief.

(52) To establish a firm place for them in the land, and to show pharaoh, Haman, and their hosts, at their hands, the very things against which they were taking precautions.

(53) Then the people of pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin.

(54) The wife of pharaoh said: "(Here is) joy of the eye, for me and for thee: slay him not. It may be that he will be use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not (what they were doing)!

(55) "Move thy hand into thy bosom, and it will come forth white without stain (or harm), and draw thy hand close to thy side (to guard) against fear. Those are the two credentials from thy Lord to pharaoh and his Chiefs: for truly they are a people rebellious and wicked."

(56) pharaoh said: "O Chiefs! no god do I know for you but myself: therefore, O Haman! light me a (kiln to bake bricks) out of clay, and build me a lofty palace, that I may mount up to the god of Moses: but as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!"

(57) (Remember also) Qarun, pharaoh, and Haman: there came to them Moses with Clear Signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us).

(58) Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,

(59) To pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun; but they called (him)" a sorcerer telling lies!"...

(60) Said pharaoh: "Leave me to slay Moses; and let him call on his Lord! What I fear is lest he should change your religion, or lest he should cause mischief to appear in the land!"
