(11) Postponement (of a sacred month) is only an excess of disbelief whereby those who disbelieve are misled; they allow it one year and forbid it (another) year, that they may make up the number of the months which Allah hath hallowed, so that they allow that which Allah hath forbidden. The evil of their deeds is made fairseeming unto them. Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.

(12) See they not that they are tested once or twice in every year? Still they turn not in repentance, neither pay they heed.

(13) He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge.

(14) And they ask thee to inform them (saying): Is it true? Say: yea, by my Lord, verily it is true, and ye cannot escape.

(15) And he said unto him of the twain who he knew would be released: Mention me in the presence of thy lord. But Satan caused him to forget to mention it to his lord, so he (Joseph) stayed in prison for some years.

(16) He said: Ye shall sow seven years as usual, but that which ye reap, leave it in the ear, all save a little which ye eat.

(17) Then after that will come seven hard years which will devour all that ye have prepared for them, save a little of that which ye have stored.

(18) Then, after that, will come a year when the people will have plenteous crops and when they will press (wine and oil).

(19) Our Lord! Lo! I have settled some of my posterity in an uncultivable valley near unto Thy holy House, our Lord! that they may establish proper worship; so incline some hearts of men that they may yearn toward them, and provide Thou them with fruits in order that they may be thankful.

(20) And We appoint the night and the day two portents. Then We make dark the portent of the night, and We make the portent of the day sight-giving, that ye may seek bounty from your Lord, and that ye may know the computation of the years, and the reckoning; and everything have We expounded with a clear expounding.
