(33) See what similitudes they coin for thee, and thus are all astray, and cannot find a road!

(34) He knoweth (all) that is before them and (all) that is behind them, while they cannot compass it in knowledge.

(35) He knoweth what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him whom He accepteth, and they quake for awe of Him.

(36) Or have they gods who can shield them from Us? They cannot help themselves nor can they be defended from Us.

(37) He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you?

(38) And let those who cannot find a match keep chaste till Allah give them independence by His grace. And such of your slaves as seek a writing (of emancipation), write it for them if ye are aware of aught of good in them, and bestow upon them of the wealth of Allah which He hath bestowed upon you. Force not your slave-girls to whoredom that ye may seek enjoyment of the life of the world, if they would preserve their chastity. And if one force them, then (unto them), after their compulsion, lo! Allah will be Forgiving, Merciful.

(39) See how they coin similitudes for thee, so that they are all astray and cannot find a road!

(40) Return unto them. We verily shall come unto them with hosts that they cannot resist, and we shall drive them out from thence with shame, and they will be abased.
