(1) When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe."

(2) Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: But canst thou make the deaf to hear,- even though they are without understanding?

(3) And among them are some who look at thee: but canst thou guide the blind,- even though they will not see?

(4) Nor walk on the earth with insolence: for thou canst not rend the earth asunder, nor reach the mountains in height.

(5) "Lead to destruction those whom thou canst among them, with thy (seductive) voice; make assaults on them with thy cavalry and thy infantry; mutually share with them wealth and children; and make promises to them." But Satan promises them nothing but deceit.

(6) "And how canst thou have patience about things about which thy understanding is not complete?"

(7) He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?"

(8) He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?"

(9) But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them?

(10) They said: "Never shall we regard thee as more than the Clear Signs that have come to us, or than Him Who created us! so decree whatever thou desirest to decree: for thou canst only decree (touching) the life of this world.
