(91) But if they turn away (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم from the Islamic Monotheism, which you have brought to them). We have not sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) as a Hafiz (watcher, protector) over them (i.e. to take care of their deeds and to recompense them). Your duty is to convey (the Message). And verily, when We cause man to taste of Mercy from Us, he rejoices thereat; but when some ill befalls them because of the deeds which their hands have sent forth, then verily, man (becomes) ingrate!
(92) In front of them there is Hell. And that which they have earned will be of no profit to them, nor (will be of any profit to them) those whom they have taken as Auliya' (protectors, helpers) besides Allah. And theirs will be a great torment.
(93) Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers) are Auliya' (protectors, helpers) of one another, but Allah is the Wali (Helper, protector) of the Muttaqun (the pious. See V.2:2).
(94) And whosoever does not respond to Allah's Caller, he cannot escape on earth, and there will be no Auliya' (lords, helpers, supporters, protectors) for him besides Allah (from Allah's punishment). Those are in manifest error.
(95) So, when you meet (in fight - Jihad in Allah's Cause) those who disbelieve, smite (their) necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom), or ransom (according to what benefits Islam), until the war lays down its burden. Thus [you are ordered by Allah to continue in carrying out Jihad against the disbelievers till they embrace Islam and are saved from the punishment in the Hell-fire or at least come under your protection], but if it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight) in order to test some of you with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost.
(96) That is because Allah is the Maula (Lord, Master, Helper, protector, etc.) of those who believe, and the disbelievers have no Maula (lord, master, helper, protector, etc.).
(97) And if those who disbelieve fight against you, they certainly would have turned their backs; then they would have found neither a Wali (protector, guardian) nor a helper.
(98) Allah has already ordained for you (O men) the absolution from your oaths. And Allah is your Maula (Lord, or Master, or protector) and He is the All-Knower, the All-Wise.
(99) If you two (wives of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم : 'Aishah and Hafsah رضي الله عنهما) turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined (to oppose what the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم likes); but if you help one another against him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), then verily, Allah is his Maula (Lord, or Master, or protector), and Jibril (Gabriel), and the righteous among the believers; and furthermore, the angels are his helpers.
(100) Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "None can protect me from Allah's punishment (if I were to disobey Him), nor can I find refuge except in Him.
