(233) But how many (countless) generations before them have we destroyed, who were even better in equipment and in glitter to the eye?

(234) Say: "If any men go astray, (Allah) Most Gracious extends (the rope) to them, until, when they see the warning of Allah (being fulfilled) - either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour,- they will at length realise who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces!

(235) But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them?

(236) We sent an inspiration to Moses: "Travel by night with My servants, and strike a dry path for them through the sea, without fear of being overtaken (by Pharaoh) and without (any other) fear."

(237) If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment;

(238) But he who works deeds of righteousness, and has faith, will have no fear of harm nor of any curtailment (of what is his due).

(239) Is it not a warning to such men (to call to mind) how many generations before them We destroyed, in whose haunts they (now) move? Verily, in this are Signs for men endued with understanding.

(240) How many were the populations We utterly destroyed because of their iniquities, setting up in their places other peoples?
