(12) And it was said: "O earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold (your rain)." (13) They said: "Do you wonder at the decree of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)]. Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."

(14) And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) and made for them wives and offspring. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's Leave. (For) every matter there is a decree (from Allah). [Tafsir Al-Tabari]

(15) And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it.

(16) "Except his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind (i.e. she will be destroyed)."

(17) And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning.

(18) And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture: indeed you would do mischief in the land twice and you will become tyrants and extremely arrogant!

(19) And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

(20) And there is not a town (population) but We shall destroy it before the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with a severe torment. That is written in the Book (of Our decrees)
