(41) Then the sects differed [i.e. the Christians about 'Îsa (jesus) عليه السلام], so woe unto the disbelievers [those who gave false witness by saying that 'Îsa (jesus) is the son of Allah] from the Meeting of a great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection, when they will be thrown in the blazing Fire) .

(42) And they say: "The Most Gracious (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son ['Îsa (jesus) عليه السلام], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels and others.)]."

(43) And they say: "The Most Gracious (Allah) has begotten a son (or children)." Glory to Him! They [whom they call children of Allah i.e. the angels, 'Îsa (jesus) - son of Maryam (Mary), 'Uzair (Ezra)], are but honoured slaves.

(44) And she who guarded her chastity [Virgin Maryam (Mary)]: We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through Our Ruh - Jibril (Gabriel)], and We made her and her son ['Îsa (jesus)] a sign for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinn).

(45) Verily, those for whom the good has preceded from Us, they will be removed far therefrom (Hell) [e.g. 'Îsa (jesus), son of Maryam (Mary); 'Uzair (Ezra)].

(46) And We bestowed on him [Ibrahim (Abraham)], Ishaq (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob), and We ordained among his offspring Prophethood and the Book [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) (to Musa - Moses), the Injeel (Gospel) (to 'Îsa - jesus), and the Qur'an (to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), all from the offspring of Ibrahim (Abraham)], and We granted him his reward in this world; and verily, in the Hereafter he is indeed among the righteous.

(47) And (remember) when We took from the Prophets their covenant, and from you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and from Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and 'Îsa (jesus) son of Maryam (Mary). We took from them a strong covenant.

(48) He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion (Islamic Monotheism) which He ordained for Nuh (Noah), and that which We have revealed to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), and that which We ordained for Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and 'Îsa (jesus) saying you should establish religion (i.e. to do what it orders you to do practically), and make no divisions in it (religion) (i.e. various sects in religion). Intolerable for the Mushrikun, is that (Islamic Monotheism) to which you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience.

(49) And when the son of Maryam (Mary) is quoted as an example [i.e. 'Îsa (jesus) is worshipped like their idols], behold, your people cry aloud (laugh out at the example).

(50) And say: "Are our alihah (gods) better or is he ['Îsa (jesus)]?" They quoted not the above example except for argument. Nay! But they are a quarrelsome people. (See V. 21:98-101)
