(1) Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and grand.

(2) They said, "Have you come to us to turn us away from that upon which we found our fathers and so that you two may have grandeur in the land? And we are not believers in you."

(3) [He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the grand, the Exalted.

(4) And Allah has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allah they disbelieve?

(5) That is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the grand.

(6) That is because Allah is the Truth, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the grand.

(7) And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the grand.

(8) [They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the grand."

(9) And to Him belongs [all] grandeur within the heavens and the earth, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

(10) What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur
