Then if ye show obedience, Allah will grant you a goodly reward, but if ye turn back as ye did before, He will punish you with a grievous Penalty."

(233) We already know how much of them the earth takes away: With Us is a record guarding (the full account).

(234) Do they not look at the sky above them?- how We have made it and adorned it, and there are no flaws in it?

(235) But how many generations before them did We destroy (for their sins),- stronger in power than they? Then did they wander through the land: was there any place of escape (for them)?

(236) "To bring on, on them, (a shower of) stones of clay (brimstone),

(237) And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: how excellently We do spread out!

(238) how many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.

(239) But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning?

(240) The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning?
