(1) So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."

(2) So when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, despised."

(3) And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And Allah is encompassing of what they do.

(4) And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?" They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence.

(5) And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.

(6) But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

(7) [The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

(8) But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.

(9) Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

(10) They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.
