(41) No doubt, in the Hereafter, they will be the losers.

(42) Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "Shall We tell you the greatest losers in respect of (their) deeds?

(43) He said: "They are close on my footsteps: and I hastened to You, O my Lord, that You might be pleased."

(44) And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.

(45) And among mankind is he who worships Allah as it were, upon the edge (i.e. in doubt): if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss.

(46) "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily you indeed would be losers.

(47) And those whose scales (of good deeds) are light, they are those who lose their ownselves, in Hell will they abide.

(48) Nor a close friend (to help us).

(49) They are those for whom there will be an evil torment (in this world). And in the Hereafter they will be the greatest losers.

(50) Say: "Perhaps that which you wish to hasten on, may be close behind you.
