(1) We saved him and those who adhered to him. By Our mercy, and We cut off the roots of those who rejected Our signs and did not believe.

Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who understand!

(4) Seest thou not how Allah sets forth a parable? - A goodly word like a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the heavens,- of its Lord. So Allah sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.

(5) And the parable of an evil Word is that of an evil tree: It is torn up by the root from the surface of the earth: it has no stability.

(6) They ask thee concerning the Mountains: say, "My Lord will uproot them and scatter them as dust;

(7) Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground).

(8) Whether ye cut down (O ye Muslim!) The tender palm-trees, or ye left them standing on their roots, it was by leave of Allah, and in order that He might cover with shame the rebellious transgresses.

(9) He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!
