(1) That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed.

(2) Say, "He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you or from beneath your feet or to confuse you [so you become] sects and make you taste the violence of one another." Look how We diversify the signs that they might understand.

(3) Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

(4) And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.

(5) Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence.

(6) But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.

(7) Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.

(8) [Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has.

(9) Lodge them [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them in order to oppress them. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for the father another woman.
