(3) Why were there not, among the generations before you, persons possessed of balanced good sense, prohibiting (men) from mischief in the earth - except a few among them whom We saved (from harm)? But the wrong-doers pursued the enjoyment of the good things of life which were given them, and persisted in sin.

(4) And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.

(5) Give full measure when ye measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight: that is the most fitting and the most advantageous in the final determination.

(6) Then those whose balance (of good deeds) is heavy,- they will attain salvation:

(7) But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost their souls, in Hell will they abide.

(8) Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes);

(9) It is Allah Who has sent down the Book in Truth, and the balance (by which to weigh conduct). And what will make thee realise that perhaps the Hour is close at hand?

(10) And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the balance (of Justice),
