(3) They said: O Salih! Thou hast been among us hitherto as that wherein our hope was placed. dost thou ask us not to worship what our fathers worshipped? Lo! we verily are in grave doubt concerning that to which thou callest us.

(4) Or dost thou ask of them (O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best of all who make provision.

(5) Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock

(6) And thus have We inspired in thee (Muhammad) a Spirit of Our command. Thou knewest not what the Scripture was, nor what the Faith. But We have made it a light whereby We guide whom We will of Our bondmen. And lo! thou verily dost guide unto a right path,

(7) Or dost thou (Muhammad) ask a fee from them so that they are heavily taxed?

(8) dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,
