(31) (And it was said unto him): O David! Lo! We have set thee as a viceroy in the earth; therefor judge aright between mankind, and follow not desire that it beguile thee from the way of Allah. Lo! those who wander from the way of Allah have an awful doom, forasmuch as they forgot the Day of reckoning.

(32) (Saying): This is Our gift, so bestow thou, or withhold, without reckoning.

(33) This it is that ye are promised for the Day of reckoning.

(34) And though those who do wrong possess all that is in the earth, and therewith as much again, they verily will seek to ransom themselves therewith on the Day of Resurrection from the awful doom; and there will appear unto them, from their Lord, that wherewith they never reckoned.

(35) This day is each soul requited that which it hath earned; no wrong (is done) this day. Lo! Allah is swift at reckoning.

(36) Moses said: Lo! I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every scorner who believeth not in a Day of reckoning.

(37) O Prophet! When ye (men) put away women, put them away for their (legal) period and reckon the period, and keep your duty to Allah, your Lord. Expel them not from their houses nor let them go forth unless they commit open immorality. Such are the limits (imposed by) Allah; and whoso transgresseth Allah's limits, he verily wrongeth his soul. Thou knowest not: it may be that Allah will afterward bring some new thing to pass.

(38) Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.

(39) And knew not what my reckoning!

(40) For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
