(11) He said: Grasp it and fear not. We shall return it to its former state.

(12) He said: What then is the state of the generations of old?

(13) Lo! there is a plain statement for folk who are devout.

(14) And treasures and a fair estate.

(15) And He is Allah; there is no Allah save Him. His is all praise in the former and the latter (state), and His is the command, and unto Him ye will be brought back.

(16) Allah hath (now) revealed the fairest of statements, a Scripture consistent, (wherein promises of reward are) paired (with threats of punishment), whereat doth creep the flesh of those who fear their Lord, so that their flesh and their hearts soften to Allah's reminder. Such is Allah's guidance, wherewith He guideth whom He will. And him whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide.

(17) And those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He riddeth them of their ill-deeds and improveth their state.

(18) He will guide them and improve their state,

(19) Marvel ye then at this statement,

(20) Is it this statement that ye scorn,
