Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it.

(27) Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham?

(28) Has not the story reached you, of those who rejected Faith aforetime? So they tasted the evil result of their conduct; and they had a grievous Penalty.

(29) Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace.
